A joint research team led by Dr. Mori (Nara Medical Univ.), Prof. Sugie (Nara Medical Univ.), Dr. Yoshizawa (Ritsumeikan Univ.), Prof. Saio (Univ. of Tokushima), and Dr. Aiba (Nagoya Univ.) has revealed the molecular mechanism by which toxic peptides are produced in Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and Frontotemporal dementia (FTD). The results of this study are expected to lead to the elucidation of the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases such as ALS and FTD as well as to the development of therapeutic methods.
